– Nutrition – Our Dandelion and Alfalfa blend is designed as an anti-inflammation nutrient boost. Both herbs display an impressive amount of nutrients, vitamins and also strong anti-inflammatory properties. This includes Vitamins: A, K & C, Minerals: Potassium, Calcium and Iron.

Alfalfa leaf (Medicago Sativa) is said to have originated in South-Central Asia and was first cultivated in ancient Iran. Alfalfa also goes by the name Lucerne which is commonly used in the UK. Alfalfa is a member of the Legume family, it has a special ability to draw extra nutrients out of soil due to its extended root system.

Dandelion (Taraxacum Officinale) is a plant native to Asia, Europe and North America. The name Dandelion originates from the French term “dent de lion” meaning lion’s tooth. The plant was savoured by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, prized for its extensive history of various culinary and medicinal uses.

How to use

To make a tea:

1. Use a ratio of 2-3 tsp (2-3g) of Alfalfa & Dandelion to 1 cup (250ml) of water.

2. Boil the water using a kettle or pot.

3. Add herbs to a teapot then add boiled water or add herbs to a pot of boiled water (heat switched off).

4. Cover and allow to sit for 5-10 mins then strain and serve. Have 2-3 cups daily.

5. You can add citrus and natural sweeteners for extra flavour, we do not recommend sugar.

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale, Leotodon taraxacum)

Properties:
Diuretic, tonic and slightly aperient, mild laxative.

Uses:
Anemia, Constipation, Gallstones. Kidney and liver disorders, cirrhosis, hepatitis and liver disease. Encourages normal digestion

Dandelion is a diuretic, tonic and slightly aperient. It is a general stimulant to the system, but especially to the urinary organs, and is chiefly used in kidney and liver disorders.

Dandelion has been used for traditionally to treat jaundice and the yellowing of the skin that comes with liver dysfunction, cirrhosis, hepatitis and liver disease. Modern naturopathic physicians use dandelion to detoxify the liver and reduce the side effects of prescription medications.

But liver function isn't the only use of this nutritious plant. It is also used to treat infections, swelling, water retention, breast problems, gallbladder problems, pnuemonia and viruses. Studies have shown that dandelion stimulates bile flow and has a mild diuretic effect.
