– Detox – Burdock Root and Elderberries blend is great for general immune system support, it may also help to lower or regulate blood sugar. Burdock Root contains a variety of nutrients such as antioxidants and inulin that are known to help with skin disorders, inflammation, digestion and more.

Burdock Root may help slow tumour development, as well as reduce pain experienced from some cancers, such as breast tumours. A laboratory study in 2011 found that the antioxidants in Burdock Root helped stop some cancers from spreading. However, additional research is needed, as there is insufficient evidence for the use of Burdock Root as a cancer treatment (always consult a licensed Doctor or herbalist if on medication or pregnant)

Burdock (Arctium Lappa) is a biennial plant of the Asteraceae family. Burdock is native to Asia and Europe but has also been cultivated in other regions of the world. It has been celebrated for thousands of years for its culinary and medicinal uses.

Elderberries have been used traditionally for the immune system, coughs, colds, flu, bacterial infections, viral infections, tonsillitis, lower cholesterol, improved vision and heart health.

How to use

Burdock root can be made into a herbal infusion (tea). Have 2-3 cups daily.

To make a tea:
1. Use a ratio of 2-3 tsp (2-3g) of Burdock root to 1 cup (250ml) of water.
2. Add roots and water to a pot and bring to a boil.
3. Cover, reduce heat and allow to simmer for 10-15 mins, then serve.
4. You can add citrus and natural sweeteners, we do not recommend sugar.

Description: Burdock is a biennial herbaceous plant that grows as tall as 5 feet. The large leaves are spade-shaped. The leaves are alternate, broad to ovate-cordate (Spade to heart shaped). The leaves are blunt and slightly wooly to hairy on the underside. The lowest leaves are very large and have a latex-filled stem.

Habitat: Burdock is native to Europe and Asia and has now spread worldwide in temperate zones.

Parts of plant used: The medicinal parts of the plant are the ripe seed and the fresh or dried roots. This product is the dried roots

Burdock Root can be made into a herbal Tea. Use 1-2 teaspoons per cup of boiling water and steep for 3-10 minutes. Drink up to 3 cups a day

History and Traditional uses:

Throughout its history Burdock Root has been used to purify the blood as an Antioxidant to alleviate constipation, to help with digestive health, promote sweating, remedy stomach and intestinal disorders ease childbirth, break up kidney and bladder stones, and control arthritis and gout pains.

Burdock Root contains many powerful antioxidants, including phenolic acids. Quercetin and luteolin, Antioxidants help the body to defend itself against free radicals. Free radicals damage the cell by a process of oxidation and can cause many physiological problems. The antioxidant levels in Burdock has been shown to help lower inflammation throughout the body.

With a well documented historical use as a remedy to many skin problems, it has been discovered that Burdock contains plant chemicals known as “polyacetylenes” which have anti-fungal and antibiotic qualities.
