Currants are a shrub of the Genus Ribes of the gooseberry family (Grossulariaceae). There are at least 100 species of Currant. Native to the temperate climates of the Northern Hemisphere and of South America, it’s a fun fact that the UK grows more Black Currants than any other country in the world!.

Currants are very high in Vitamin C and also contain Iron, Calcium and Phosphorus.
