Medjool “The King of Dates!”. Among the wide variety of Dates, Medjools are considered number one! Medjool Dates are very popular across the world because of their size and delicious taste. Medjools come from Middle East and North African regions. They are considered one of the oldest cultivated fruits, with evidence of its consumption by ancient cultures dating back to around 6,000 B.C. In 1927, Walter Swingle an American horticulturist rescued nine offshoots of Medjools from Morocco as the crops where threatened by disease. Those nine offshoots were brought to California and planted. Today 75% of Dates in the United States are now grown there and the Medjool variety are related to those palm trees.
