Red Clover (Trifolium Pratense) is native to Western Asia, Northwest Africa, and Europe. Red Clover is part of the Genus family Fabaceae. The name clover stems from the latin word “Clava” meaning “club”. Native Americans are credited with discovering the medicinal properties of Red Clover, it was later recognised in Europe and has been celebrated since.

How to use

Red Clover can be made into a herbal infusion (tea). Have 2-3 cups daily.

To make a tea:
1. Use a ratio of 2-3 tsp (2-3g) of Red Clover to 1 cup (250ml) of water.
2. Boil the water using a kettle or pot.
3. Add herbs to a teapot then add the water, or to the pot with the heat off.
4. Cover and allow to sit for 5-10 mins then serve.
5. You can add citrus and natural sweeteners for extra flavour, we do not recommend sugar.

Red Clover (Trifolium pratense)

Habitat: The plant is indigenous to Europe, central Asia, northern Africa and is naturalized in many other parts of the world.

Medicinal Parts: The medicinal parts are the dried and the fresh flower heads.

Red Clover has antispasmodic and expectorant effects and also promotes the skin's healing process.

Internally, Red Clover is used for coughs and respiratory conditions, particularly whooping cough.

Externally, it is used in the treatment of chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

In herbal/folk medicine Red clover is used for cancer prevention, indigestion, high cholesterol, whooping cough, cough, asthma, bronchitis, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Some women use red clover for symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes; for breast pain or tenderness (mastalgia); and for premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Red clover contains “isoflavones” which are changed in the body to “phytoestrogens” that are similar to the hormone estrogen. these have a positive effect of balancing out hormones.
