Organic Maca Root Blend

Maca Root Blend is a mix of four types of Gelatinised Maca Root, Black, Yellow, Red and Purple.

This blend gives you the unique characteristics and nutrients of all the colours of Maca. All of the Maca types used have been gelatinised – this is a slow, low heating and hydration process that removes the starches from the roots. Traditionally Maca is cooked before use as it is used in its whole form. Globally the powdered version is used and it’s typically raw – this means the starches are still in tact and harder to break down which reduces the bioavailability of the nutrients.

Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root vegetable that originates from the highlands of the Andes Mountain in Peru, grown near the Lake Junin region. This special crop was traded throughout the ancient Incan Empire. Maca Roots come in a range of colours including shades of gold, cream, red, purple and black. Maca has been used by some populations in Peru for thousands of years as a food and medicine. Although research on the medicinal health effects of Maca Root is limited, some evidence suggests that taking Maca supplements may help improve certain aspects of sexual health and fertility and may help reduce menopause symptoms and improve mood in certain people.
